Importance of Websites for Small Businesses

Introduction

Are you interested in starting a small business? If so, you are absolutely going to need a website. There has been a paradigm shift over the last few years that people have really not understood or been able to keep up with and that shift has reinvigorated the internet in ways that the previous dot com boom pales in comparison to. The previous boom allowed for people to get funding for outrageous projects that had never been tried before, while the current boom allows for the little guy to strike it rich. If you are a small business, you absolutely need to have a website and here is why.

Exposure

You can get a website up and running for free on one of the many free web hosts that exist on the internet or if you want to get a really good hosting deal that you do not have to worry about for a long time, you can get a domain name and two years of hosting for as little as $150. This website, when constructed, will get you exposure. Even if you do absolutely nothing to promote it, people will stumble onto your website at some point and those people will be able to see your business when probably they never would have if you did not have a website. If you actually attempt to drive traffic to your website, you will have thousands of potential customers looking at your business that never would have had the chance to do so otherwise.

Convenient Base

Another reason that you should go with a website is that it gives you a convenient base of operations. Previous to the website boom, how exactly was it that businesses operated? They had business cards and offices, both of which were expensive to produce and re-produce when the initial money ran out. However, when you take a look at the websites, they really form a virtual piece of real estate online and you can use that piece of real estate as a base from which you direct all of your other operations. Business cards become cheaper because you just have a name and URL instead of extra printing information and in addition to that your office can be your home, because your website has everything a customer would need. These are just two aspects of the importance for small businesses to have a website, but they illustrate the point effectively.

Search Engine Optimization and its Advantages

Posted by admin on 29th December 2007

Introduction

There are many advantages inherent to the search engine optimization (SEO) process. Very simple, search engine optimization is the positioning of certain elements on a webpage in order to have that webpage rank higher within the rankings for various search engines. This very simple definition of SEO has undoubtedly already alerted you to what some of those advantages might be, but for the sake of clarity here they are.

Traffic

In the world of online business, traffic is the King. Your business is made or broken by your ability to drive traffic to the website and search engine optimization can help you do just that. SEO not only increases the amount of traffic that you get from the search engines, but it also ensures that you get a higher amount of organic search engine traffic. Organic search engine traffic is better than other forms of traffic because for the first part it is free and for the second part it is highly responsive because the people that click on your website from a search engine are actually looking for what it is you have to offer them.

Money

One of the reasons that traffic is so important to a business is that money is directly related to traffic. Whether you make money through selling something on your website, advertising through your website or alternatively doing some combination of both things, the search engine optimization that brings in additional traffic will allow that traffic to drive up both your sales numbers as well as the prices that you can feel justified in charging to your advertisers. In both cases, this results in extra money for you. Combine this idea of extra money from SEO with the fact that you will have to spend less money on advertising and you get double the extra money.

Pride

Another reason that SEO is advantageous for you is that it can help instill in you a sense of pride in your website. Make no mistake about it; business is about not only making money, but also in convincing yourself to keep at it through thick and thin. If you have a high morale, this is easy to do. You can get a high morale by seeing your efforts rewarded directly and therefore SEO also has positive mental effects on people that do it because it shows them directly that something that they do with their website has the potential to come back and help them later on.
